‘A splendid arts series…’
by Jen Roberts on Jan.30, 2009, under Events, Roxy Rawson, Sophia Blackwell
Well, I have some good news and some bad news with regards our Behind The Mic shows. The bad news is that our beloved Soho Revue Bar ceased trading after last nights gigs so our Soho show is homeless. The good news is, Time Out love our radio shows…‘a splendid arts series’ they say! On the live show front, we’re back at The Library (Islington - Opposite Union Chapel) on the 19th February with Sound of Rum headlining. They were guests on our radio show last Monday and were brilliant! Kate Tempest is one hell of a rapper and the guitarist and drummer were not only lovely lads but highly skilled themselves.
Below’s the latest press release for the next few shows in the series…(NB it was too late to include this Mondays info but I can tell you we have the vampy performance poet Sophia Blackwell and singer songwriter Idan Rabinovici who’s recently supported Jose Gonzalez. http://www.myspace.com/idanrab )

Our rising star, Roxy Rawson will be performing at The Royal Albert Hall on February 24th as part of the hush series. I can’t wait!…I hope you can make it. Drop me a line if you can, it would be good to hook up before/after. Roxy Rawson is set to become loopy
by Jen Roberts on Nov.15, 2008, under Roxy Rawson
Yesterday Rox and I had a great meeting with Kev from Roland to discuss the company endorsing her. I suggested we rendez vous at Cafe Rouge in Hampstead and was quite pleased with the selection; the atmosphere and customer service was great. The wine list wasn’t half bad either.
As a consequence of the meeting, Roland are providing Roxy with some great tools to aid her development. Notably, a BOSS RC-50 loop station (the best on the market) so she can incorporate looping of her violin and vocals into her live performance and a neat little recording device so she can capture songs whilst on the move. (She’s been using her mobile phone to record songs as they come to her - I think she said there was about 400 recordings on it! Profilic composer that she is.) This new device should allow for greater quality recordings and make it easier to transfer them to her pc. It’s all very exciting! Rox said she’ll be debuting one of her ‘loopy’ songs on November 30th at the Cross Kings…come along if you can! Below are a couple of pics I took on my Blackberry when Roxy delighted Kev and Hampstead High Street with a few impromptu songs outside the cafe…
I can’t wait to hear what Rox get’s up to with her new tools! Watch this space…
